Summer 10km Road Races

The 10k league got off to a brilliant start at Pocklington with a record field of 297 taking to the classic course round the foothills of the Yorkshire Wolds. A slight headwind in the early stages probably slowed us down in the early stages but other than that it was perfect running conditions.

There was a changing of the guard in the men’s race as new faces filled the top three places in the men’s race. Ewan Brown (Knavesmire) took the lead from the outset and he won with time of 32.51. Our own Andy Munzer had a lonely run for 2nd as he finished well clear of York University’s Richard Weeks Unfortunately Knavesmire Harriers had far too many runners out in the team race as they easily overcame  us… next time…

The women’s race was a more familar tale of the battle between the two Emmas as our Emma Willits defeated Emma Yates  from Knavesmire by nearly a minute to win in an impressive time of 37.38. The Ladies team claimed the bronze medal in the team competition

Baildon Boundary Way

Several Acorns had a sparkling day running round the hills and canals of West Yorkshire. It was glorious running down through the Esholt woods, with spring in the air (or was it the sewage works!). We then came to the canal, 3 miles of running torture – very boring and tedious but it put miles under our feet. Just past Shipley we took to the country, up Shipley Glen, which sounds quite beautiful, until you have to run it! We eventually appeared at the top and then cantered across Baildon moor to the gallops. For those with time on their hands there was a great view across the snow drifts towards the Chevin and Leeds airport. Soon it was downhill, then across the road with a sharp up hill in the finish field.

The second club league event took place on Easter Sunday. A lovely race round the market town of Helmsley on a mixture of road and trails. The results below showed some fine running in the cold conditions.

December Park Runs

The Club Park runners have been out and about recording some great times. I understand that there will be a York Parkrun on Christmas Day for those wanting to work up an appetite before lunch.

10km Races Nov 2012

On a cold autumnal day, Paul Lewis completed the Barnsely 10km in a fantastic 41 min 23 secs.  Before he entered he had been advised that it was a potential “PB” course….well never believe a fellow runner…the actual course was not flat nor fast! The first 2 km proved to be a steady climb, the next 5km were level running, but the final 3km were the killer… climbing and descending many times.  Overall a great challenge and a bit different to the york 10km races.

Meanwhile over in Leeds, the Abbey Dash saw several Acorns  recording great times running on this famously fast and flat course:
