Bishop Wilton 10k report, 8 June 2010

The lousy weather did not dampen the spirits of York Acorn and there was another great turn out for the third of the York and District Road Race League last night up at Bishop Wilton.  Once again we (the very royal ‘we’ as I am still on the injury bench) had an amazing night and Mark Metcalfe stormed home in second place. Click here to understand how Worsendale hill got it’s name and see some pics:

The rain did not stop all day and it was very hard to leave my home comforts to go stand in a sodden field,  but I am so glad that I did as I would have missed another spectacular effort by York Acorn.

The hill at Worsendale was a great test especially to those who have never met it before and I stood taking pictures at the point when it plateaus out a bit near the house and farm.  Mark Metcalfe was in great form and was leading at the top of the hill.  He was shortly followed by Mike Raines, Mark Dowson, Chris Alder and Paul who were all made it look like a little blip.  Erin was first home for the ladies and looked very strong on the hill, she was followed shortly by Emma, Helen, Julie, Michelle, Marian and Liz.  Poor Liz told me later that she wanted to pull out at the point when she passed me, but courageously carried on and still finished smiling.

Tom Dandy from Pocklington managed to take the lead back from Mark and finished in first place.  Mark later told me that he found the run through the village and out to the playing field harder than the ‘big hill’ because the road starts to gradually climb again in the last mile just when your legs tire.  Once again the red vests were heavily scattered in the top twenty runners and York Acorn A Team are in the lead after three races (you know who you are) and the B, C and D teams ain’t doing too bad either.  Baby Ben joined Debs, Ian (looking tanned and relaxed post Bob Graham) and I on the cheering leading team.

The next race is the one that we are hosting on the Knavesmire on the 22nd June and so if you want to ‘give something back’ and strut your stuff on the night… please get in touch (yorkacorn@googlemail.com) asap as we NEED you.

Please excuse the camera skills you were all just a tad too fast for me (and no, I was not drinking).  Sorry if you are not there… I will get you next time!
