Where have all the Acorns gone? The diminishing numbers for the race up at Castle Bolton has our Fell Captain puzzled. Read all about it in Andy’s report:
The last 2 years we have made a day of the James Herriot Country Trail race from Castle Bolton, booked a coach and gone out for a meal after the race as well as winning a good number of the prizes on offer. It was therefore a little disappointing that this year only 3 members toed the line. Driving across the weather looked lovely, but just before the start it clouded over, rain threatened and there was also a stiff breeze which was against you for the first half of the race. Andy Normandale is on a good run of form and pulled up to 6th place on the first climb, a place which he then comfortably held until the finish. Andy’s time was 59 mins 17secs and he won the over 50’s age category. Phil Paxman and Mike Hetherton also ran well, Phil 33rd in 68m 3s and Mike 48th in 70m 43s , but unfortunately they missed out on the over 60 vets prizes, finishing 3rd and 4th There were only just over 200 runners in this race, well down on previous years, so it wasn’t just Acorn whose number were down. I am though mystified why this was as it is such a lovely run. Hopefully we’ll make a day of it again next year.
