The weather was kind to us as we headed over the North Yorkshire Moors in the Scooby Mobile to take part in the final of the NEHRA Cleveland fell summer series! Click here to read all about it:Debra Howell, Jo Ellerton, Carol Dixon-Yeung and Howard Winzar took part in this really tough ‘road race for fell runners’. We set off out of the showfield on familiar road, it was the same start as the Eskdale Eureka race, but at the end of the first descent we did not head off road, but continued up a long incline when Martin Perry jumped out of the bushes armed with his camera and put me off my pace. I found the first few kilometers were very tough as I am just returning from injury and had not done an awful lot of training. However, as we headed towards Hob Hole auto pilot kicked in and I started to really enjoy this race. At about 6km we headed up the steep hill towards Westerdale and I could see Howard just ahead of me. It was not long before we were heading back towards Castleton and once again found ourselves on familiar roads that are part of other races. Howard Winzar was first Acorn home in under 50 mins, followed by myself, Jo Ellerton hot on my heels and then Debs who had forgotten that she was taking part in a road race and took a scenic detour off road! All in all a very enjoyable race, Howard has certainly picked up the pace and I won some wine for winning my age category… I will definitely be back again next year to have another go. Looking forward to the Viking Chase up at Lord Stones Cafe in two weeks time which is the first race of the winter series.
