Knavesmire 10km

A pleasant evening on Tuesday saw the club split between marshalling and racing the latest in the Summer Series 10km runs. The new flags signposted the start and finish whilst the new tent provided some where to hide from the breeze.

Tom Bean lead from the front and finished first in a very quick 32 mins.  Mark Dowson and Paul came in together. Mark was a trifle slower than normal having had his first experience of 20 miles over mountains in the lake district on Sunday. Emma Willits (1st lady) continues to improve and disappear into the distance. Meanwhile Dave Lancaster(3rd V50)  having run Edinburgh marathon in a very respectable 3 hours 4 mins relished the shorter distance.  Matt, Peter and myself had a private race and sucessfully slipstreamed each other into the head wind on the back straight. Matt eventually out sprinting us to finish 4th V50.  Julie (3rd F35) crossed the line in a most casual fashion and looked back to see Howard following her in as 3rd V60. Bex, Helen and Clare were all recovering from marathon exploits and were happy to finish the course.   Mike Royce took the Zola approach to running and managed to complete all 10km in bear feet!

Despite having deplete team, we managed to finish 3rd team in both the Mens and Ladies categories.  There are some great photos on the club facebook page.  The next event is Bishop Wilton on 26 June.

Finally a big thank you to everyone who marshalled and helped to make the event a sucess.

Ian
