York Acorn Veterans Page
York Acorn affiliates to the Yorkshire Veterans Athletic Association. They organise a series of monthly runs and championships events. The monthly runs are cheap to enter about 10k in distance and are usually trail or mixed terrain races. There are prizes in all age groups and spot prizes, but you have to stay to the presentation to claim a prize ! Points are awarded for each race and count towards final placing and there is also an overall team competition. Remember that men and women are veterans from the age of 35. In recent years York Acorn has not been as active in this league as previously partly due to clashes with other events such as the Summer road and fell leagues. However we try to get a good team out at local races, particularly the York one and if anyone is keen to do the monthly runs, we can see what interest there is in trying to get a team regularly. Monthly runs are entered on the night.The championship races are usually incorporated into open races, the exceptions being the cross country championship, road relay and cross country relay. These races must be entered in advance, the fell championship usually being the only exception which can be entered on the day. There are trophies to be won normally by the top 3 in each category, though fewer for categories with a smaller entry.
Note that to qualify for the Yorkshire vets you just need to be a member of a club affiliated to the YVAA. You do not need a birth qualification.
The entry fee for 2012 is £3.50 per race. You can register in advance from the Yorkshire Vets Website or enter on the night. Retain your number for the whole series. If you lose it you will be charged an extra £1 for a new number.
