Training Event Tuesday 24th April

This event is a relay on Hob Moor with pairs of runners each running 2 legs of about a mile to a mile and a half. The event is handicapped by pairing a faster runner and a slower one together. Please register to run by 7pm and be prepared to give an estimated 5k or 10k time in order for the pairings to be sorted out. At about 7.15 we will do a warmup lap of the course while the pairings are decided. We will aim to start the event at about 7.30.This is an event held jointly with City of York AC, so it is expected that several of City of Yorks juniors will be taking place.

Training

We have a number of varied training sessions throughout the week that aim to cater for most interests and needs. Runs are led by experienced Acorn members after a brief discussion about what speed/distance people want to aim for during the session. In all cases we run in groups and don't leave anyone behind. There may, however, be certain sessions that suit your speed/distance better than others. See the clubs Facebook page for information about what sessions are which are being done on a particular day. If you wish to talk to someone about club training sessions, beginners should contact Sue Hatfield or more experienced runners should contact Ian Smallwood or Andy Normandale. They can be contacted using the Contact page accessed from the About Us drop down menu.

Tuesday night club runs

On Tuesdays we run from York Acorn Rugby Club (see link below) meeting at 7pm for a 7.15pm start. We alternate between a steady run of between 45 and 75 minutes and speedwork. When it's a steady there we usually be at least 2 groups. The speed sessions could be fartlek, a hill session or reps on the Knavesmire, though if you don't fancy the session there will usuually be some doing a steady run instead. Runners must be capable of running 5 miles to attend Tuesday training and if you are not we recommend coming to the Thursday session instead. After the run members usually meet in the Rugby Club snug for a drink and catch-up.

Thursday night club runs

On Thursdays we also run from York Acorn Rugby Club meeting at 7pm for a 7.15pm start. Training on Thursdays is slightly different to Tuesdays, with greater emphasis new starters and slower runners though again, we split into a faster and a slower group. New members are always welcome.

Weekend runs/events

Many runners meet informally at weekends, either for a longer run in the city, off-road locally or in our beautiful nearby hillier areas including the Wolds (Bishop Wilton/Thixendale) and the Howardian Hills around Castle Howard. These runs tend to be coordinated using Facebook or email. The Club has a Facebook group called York Acorn Running Club. If you wish to be contacted by email, let us know using the Contact page accessed from the About Us drop down menu.

City of York Athletics Club training

York Acorn members are welcome to train with our partner club City of York Athletic Club. These are mainly track based sessions at Huntington Stadium. City of York Athletics Club.
